Dean Dowty

Head Coach


Dean Dowty became the new head football coach after coaching at College of the Desert from 2006-13. Dowty led Desert to three bowl games and was named Coach of the Year in the Foothill Conference for the 2007 season.

Dowty played at Desert from 1987-89 before earning a scholarship to Utah State University. Dowty earned a bachelor's degree from Utah State in 1993 and eventually a master's degree from American Public University in 2012.

Heavily involved on the offensive side of the ball, Dowty has been a consistent offensive coordinator throughout his years as a football coach and brings his knowledge to Seahawk Field, with goals towards leading future student-athletes to postseason success and bids to four-year colleges. Dowty served as president of the California Community Football Coaches Association 2013, Dowty also has active experience on the administrative side. Dowty has made a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Anthony Mims

Defensive Coordinator


Anthony Mims began his coaching career in 2007 at Fairfax High School where he would coach the defensive backs.  After a break from coaching to pursue a career playing professionally, Mims would rejoin the Fairfax staff and be placed in charge of the defensive backs and the strength and conditioning program.  During his time at Fairfax, Mims would coach numerous top Western League performers as well as players that would go on to earn scholarships.  In 2014 Mims would take a break from coaching, but would continue to train defensive backs and coach at various combines and camps in the Los Angeles area.

Mims played college football at West Virginia University from 2001-2005 where he played for Rich Rodriguez.  He lettered all 4 years playing both Free Safety and Cornerback starting his last two season at Cornerback earning All Big East honors his senior year.  Mims’ professional career would include time with the San Diego Chargers, the Los Angeles Avengers, the B.C. Lions and the California Redwoods in.

Dan Speltz

Dan Speltz arrived at Los Angeles Harbor College in 2016. He had previously coached under the legendary John Featherstone at El Camino College. He served as both the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach for Featherstone. Prior to El Camino, Dan was the Offensive Coordinator at North Torrance High School. He also gained valuable experience being a Graduate Assistant Coach at California State University, Fullerton. In fact, many well known coaches were young assistance along Dan at Fullerton. The list includes; Hue Jackson (Head Coach for the Cleveland Browns), Tom Cable (Offensive Line and Assistant Head Coach for the Seattle Seahawks), Tim Drevno (Offensive Coordinator at the University of Michigan), and Jim Chaney (Offensive Coordinator at the University of Georgia).

Dan received a Master’s Degree in Physical Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Fullerton. The combination of these two fields, Sport Psychology, was the natural emphasis for his Master’s Degree. To this day, he believes his philosophy and approach to coaching are the result of his educational focus in Sport Psychology.

Dan was named First Team All-Big West at quarterback following his senior year at Fullerton. He ended this season with the highest completion percentage and the third highest passer rating in Division I football. Dan’s play also resulted in him breaking fourteen school records and one conference record.

Prior to Fullerton, Dan played two years at El Camino College and was named First Team All-American at quarterback during his second year. His team when 11-0 and won the National Championship this same season. Dan has stated that winning the National Championship was the greatest experience of his football life and that it directly led to his career choice.  

Reuben Ale

After a four year medical leave of absence from football, Coach Ale returns this season to the Grid Iron as the new Defensive Coordinator at Los Angeles Harbor College.   "I'm greatful to Coach Dowty for this opportunity to return to Harbor College, and I'm anxiously looking forward to the challenge."

A twenty four year veteran in the coaching profession, with stops at eight Community Colleges in Southern California (Compton, El Camino, Rio Hondo, East Los Angeles, Los Angeles Southwest, West Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Harbor).  Coach Ale is confident that with his background he can impact the program.  "Junior College football is the only level that I know, and have coached."

Defense has been Coach Ale's trademark throughout his coaching career.    He's been among the top in the State, or has led the conference in all defensive categories.   "I enjoy coaching defense and I can assure you that this season, we'll install an aggressive and attacking style of play."

Coach Ale's mission is to help young people transfer and move on to the next level.   He has assisted numerous student- athletes receive scholarships to many top 4-Year colleges.   "I'm blessed to say that the sport of football has been good to me and my family,"  "So I just want to give back to the sport, and to our community."

Corey Thedford

RBs Coach

Coach Corey S. Thedford is super excited to embark on his 3rd year with the Seahawks Football program.  After over ten years of coaching high school football at Hawthorne High School he has found a home at Harbor College.  “Coach Corey” was originally born in Jackson, Mississippi. The eldest of three boys, he accredits his HIGH ENERGY work ethic to his parents and their strong drive for success.  Coach Thedford attended Hawthorne High School where he earned a football scholarship to Humboldt State University, becoming a 4-year starter on both sides of the ball. He also played a year of intercollegiate rugby on a Lumberjack team that went 12-2.  Since college Coach Thedford has played ten years of Semi Pro football boasting 4 all star appearances and 1 championship. Coach Corey coaches the running backs here at Harbor and is looking for the run game to be a pivotal part of the 2016 season. He is a father of two boys Reagan (8), Jaxson (1) and has a supporting and loving wife Jamie.

Lonnie Turner Jr.

This will be coach Turner’s first year coaching at Harbor College.  Turner attended Compton Centennial High School and then Los Angeles City College where he made JC All-American as a wide receiver.  His next stop was Cal Poly Pomona where he played under Head Coach Roman Gabriel.  Turner spent 10 years playing in the USFL, playing for legend coach Mouse Davis.  Turner also played in the NFL for the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and St. Louis Cardinals.  Turner then played in the CFL with the BC Lions and the World League for the NY NJ Knights.  Turner played for every professional league that has ever been including the AFL with the Tampa Bay Storm.  Coach Turner has many years of coaching experience at the High School level as well as running skills training camps. 

Turner is married to Michelle with 6 children and 4 grandchildren.  

Cameron Stephenson

D Line

Cameron Stevenson enters his second season as the Seahawks defensive line coach.  Coach Cam is described by defensive coordinator Dennis DiCamillo as “extremely talented coach.”  

Cam played at Hawthorn High School followed by two seasons at LA Harbor where earned All-Conference as a freshman.  An early injury as as sophomore did not limit Cam’s future as he earned a Scholarship to D-1 Rutgers University. While at Rutgers Coach Stevenson play on both defensive and offensive line where he earned All-Big East as a senior.


After Graduating at Rutgers coach Cam was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL draft.  Coach Stevenson spent time with the Green Bay Packers, NFL’s Eagles, Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars as well as the Steelers and later in the AFL (Arena Football).


Coach Cameron is not only involve with the Seahawk’s on the field but also in the ‘CHAMPS’ program as a supervisor.  CHAMPS is the LAHC Athletic Academic Support program.
