Seahawks Soar Over Lancers, 5-2

Pasadena City College visits Los Angeles Harbor College on the 3rd of October for a South Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Matchup. The Seahawks enter the contest at 3-4-2 on the season.

The matchup began physical and fast between the Seahawks and the Lancers. Possession switched consistently in the first 6n minutes of the match with the Seahawks having a corner Kick opportunity that yielded a shot out of bounds.

The lancers responded with a great push downfield that led to a soft attempt that was easily picked up by Jorge Sanchez (#34, So.). The Seahawks attempted to push multiple streaks out of the goal but the Lancers defense was able to pickup on passes in the first 10 minutes.

Gabriel Henriquez (#25, Fr.) continues to be an example of smart play attaining multiple clutch throw-in opportunities for the Seahawks that led to major momentum and time of possession. The toughness is always clear and evident amongst all members of the ‘hawks backline as they pressured multiple difficult shot attempts in from the lancers before the 15th minute.

The Lancers had a corner kick opportunity in the 17th minute that led to an incredible One handed leaping breakup by Sanchez. Arturo Benigno (#7, So.) continues to display control over the defense and puts the Seahawks in good positions to make way upfield.

Henriquez caught a streak of a pass from Eduardo Gonzalez (#8, So.) that led him to make a quick inside move on the Lancers that gave him a clear line to hammer the ball in the 5 hole of the goalie that left him looking back as the ball crossed into the net.

The Seahawks did not waste any time to get back on the offensive end, with a great chase4 of the ball from Luis Romero (#30, Fr.) that led to an opportunity for Henriquez to put a ball in from the corner. Henriquez put a beat on the corner kick that led to the great goal from Romario Lemus (#20, Fr.). The Seahawks lead 2-0 after 24 minutes of competition.

The Lancers responded with a few contests on the Seahawks side of the field with a Corner Kick opportunity. The Corner crossed well over the goal and, after multiple Seahawks opportunities to clear, the Lancers found the back of the net in the 29th minute. The score sits at 2-1, Seahawks lead, entering the final 14 minutes of the first half. Lancers decide to respond with physical play but the Seahawks respond with numbers on the scoreboard as Romario Lemus finds the back of the back of the net on shot to the low corner. The Seahawks grow their lead to 3-1.

Consistent impressive breakups on the defensive end are present throughout the end of the first half from Leandro Hernandez’s (#22, So.) physical play. The combination of Hernandez and Benigno makes not difficult for the Lancers to gain traction into the Harbor defense.

The Seahawks progress into Halftime with a 3-1 lead.

The second half of the began with dominant offensive possession from the Seahawks. Having multiple opportunities at extending the lead that were thwarted by amazing saves from the Lancers Goalkeeper. Both Benigno and Eynar Romero (#9, Fr.) had excellent shots on goal in the first few minutes of the second half. Persistence wins in the long run with another shot across the goal line from Romario Lemus. This is his 3rd goal of the day and the Seahawk’s first Hat Trick of the season. A highlight off the bench for the Seahawks was definitely the shifty footwork from Juan Sebastian Tibocha (#13, Fr.). His ability to make the defense miss and put the defense in uncomfortable positions, allows the Seahawks to hold possession for longer periods. As the game progresses, the physicality and frustration continues to build. One thing that both teams are angry with is the heat, as the sun continues to beat down on the turf at Los Angeles Harbor Stadium.

The Lancers had a short stint of offensive possession with multiple fouls from the Seahawks. The Seahawks cleared the ball which led to an E. Romero shot on goal that was saved but the Lancers Goalkeeper. Jorge Sanchez continues to make athletic plays that shutdown Pasadena’s attempts to shorten the lead.

Luis Romero accepted a clearance pass from the defense that he danced around his solo defender with that led to a goalie head shake that gave him a clear shot at the back of the net. The Seahawks lead 5-1 with 14 minutes left in the contest.

Chippy play led to a PCC yellow card with 8 minutes left in the contest. Seahawks maintain composure as the game comes to an end. Lancers sneak a goal past Sanchez in the last 2 minutes of the contest.  Contest ends with a score of 5-2 with the Seahawks on top. The Seahawks advance to 4-4-2 on the season.
