Women's Soccer falls short to PCC, 2-3 L
The Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks Women’s Soccer program hosts the Pasadena City College Lancers at Los Angeles Harbor College Stadium on the 3rd of October. The Seahawks enter the contest with a record of 2-5-1 and look to get their 3rd victory of the season on a breezy evening here in Wilmington, CA.
The Seahawks continue to have great examples of defensive success behind the poised pressure of athletes like Ariana Alonso (#2, So.) and Yamna Areola (#17, So.) continue to force offenses to uncomfortable positions. The first 16 minutes of the contest split possession with the Seahawks and the Lancers.
At the 17th minute, a pass barely slipped through a Seahawks defender that led to a Lancers lead to start the match. The Lancers continue to advance the ball but the persistence of the Seahawks defense leads to constant clearances.
Much needed Speed of Genesis Moreno(#16, Fr.) as she exhibits her quickness on both sides of midfield. Moreno works well in tight spaces and is able to find her teammates in traffic. Nicole Alonso (#4, Fr.) finds herself near goal scoring opportunities constantly but had yet to have a shot on goal at the 31st minute. The Seahawks find a corner kick opportunity which is taken in the 31st minute and broken up by the Lancer defense. The ball is poked out from a header of one of the taller Lancer defenders.
It doesn’t take long for the Seahawks to retain possession. Whenever they lose the ball, it seems like they find their way back to having control within seconds. The Seahawks are being aggressive but are definitely being strategic about the moves and plays they make. The Lancers found another hole in the defense to score in the 38th minute to extend their lead to 2-0.
Nicolette Wyrick (#5, So.) always makes smart plays with possession of the ball and is consitently making up[field passes to her teammates to help the Seahawks find their way to the offensive half.
A hustle play from Dylan Baer (#9, So.) led to a deep opportunity from N. Alonso but sailed just left of the lower right corner of the goal. The score remained 2-0 entering the half.
The Seahawks came out with energy to start the second half. Some great passing led to a deflected Baer shot. The Seahawks lined up for a corner kick at 52 minutes, which was cleared by the lancers. Baer seems to be involved in every Harbor opportunity as they look to funnel passes her direction when they are across midfield.
Lancers and Seahawks exchange time spent in each others side of the field. Alexis Alalmo (#21, Fr.) is electric with possession of the ball. Able to weave between teammates for the best available option.
The Seahawks held possession with two shots on goal in the 65th minute and are exhibiting the type of energy necessary to bring them back to a competitive position in this contest. Melanie Ramos (#11, Fr.) has made major waves defensively in past games and tonight was no different.
A LAHC foul put the lancers about 30 yards away from the goal where she notched a top shelf goal. Seahawks wasted little time to respond with a goal from Ramos from about 40 yards out. The score becomes 3-1 in favor of the lancers at the 70th minute.
A handball in the 81st minute game the Seahawks a penalty kick which was set to be take by Wyrick. Wyrick loads up… kicks … SCORES!! Wyricks goal drops the lancers lead to just one goal. The Seahawks immediately respond with aggressive energy and bring the game back on their offensive end. Good defensive play by the Lancers lead to a throw in on the opposite side of the field for the Seahawks. Time came to a close with multiple sprints of momentum upfield for the Seahawks but was not enough to even the score in the contest. PCC walks away with the victory and the Seahawks advance to 2-6-1 on the season.
