Harbor Men's Basketball Back To .500 With Win At Pasadena
The 2025-26 Los Angeles Harbor College men's basketball team took nearly five minutes to get on the scoreboard at Pasadena City College Wednesday night. When the Seahawks finally got going, the results were fruitful as they pulled away from the Lancers for a 77-65 victory.
The South Coast Conference crossover victory allowed LAHC to reach the .500 mark at 9-9 in pre-conference play as the team gets ready for the 10-game, SCC South Division schedule.
Harbor has won three of its last four contests and after trailing early 12-4, the Seahawks went on a 23-5 run capped on a Nate Guevara 3-pointer as they took a 27-23 lead into halftime.
Leading 40-38, LAHC again distanced itself, this time with a 26-10 spurt as Guevara sank back-to-back treys. The 66-48 lead made the final eight minutes a case of taking time off the clock in insuring the 12-point road win. The Seahawks avenged a 66-64 loss to Pasadena in the championship game of the Antelope Valley Gregg Anderson Tournament on Dec. 7.
Kristian Jemerson led Harbor with 20 points while Guevara added 18 (four triples), six assists, and five rebounds. Max Choi was a spark off the bench in scoring 17 points while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. The Seahawks were outstanding from long distance, draining the hoop at a 10-for-21 rate (47.6 percent) and also shot well from the free throw line, making 11-for-13.
Brandon Releford (4-for-4 at the charity stripe) tallied nine points. Zack Scarborough picked up six points, making all three of his field goals, and had four boards.
Jemerson, who was 3-for-4 outside the 3-point arc v. PCC, is the 12-team, South Coast leader in 3-point FG percentage at 48.6 (34-for-70). The 6-foot-4 sophomore is Harbor's top scorer at 15.8 points per contest. Davide Saccavino, a 6-7 sophomore forward from Italy, tops the Seahawks in rebounding at 6.7 boards per game.
For a month's period between Nov. 6-Dec. 6, Harbor ran off six consecutive victories under long-time head coach Tony Carter-Loza, in his 25th season in charge of the program. The streaky Seahawks then struggled in a 6-game losing streak that included defeats v. state #5-ranked Mt. San Antonio, #11 Santa Ana and #13 Santiago Canyon.
However, on Dec. 30, Harbor ended the rough stretch by knocking off #14-rated West Los Angeles, 77-74, as Jemerson poured in 28 points (five 3s), Choi 21 points and Saccavino posted a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Seahawks open division play on Wednesday, Jan. 21 in a home game v. Long Beach City. If they have a chance at the South title, they will have to battle #6 Cerritos as they have important SCC contests v. the Falcons on Jan. 28 (home) and Cerritos on Feb. 13. All conference games have 5 p.m. tip-offs.
